An article by Dr Keneilwe Munyai, d-school programme manager, detailing the d-school’s work with a community to determine the use of a Science Centre in George, was published in The Conversation yesterday.
In the first week of December 2017, the d-school held its third bi-annual Design Thinking Week at the d-school studio at UCT. The week comprises a four-day Introduction to Design Thinking for students from tertiary institutions all around South Africa.

The d-school's third training programme for coaches got underway in June. Applicants who made it through the first round of the application process underwent a one-day Fast Forward in Design Thinking.
The d-school celebrated d-finals, the day that student teams present their project ideas to project partners on 31 May, followed by their graduation on 2 June with Friends and Family Day. This semester marked the launch of our first Advanced Programme in Design Thinking for postgraduate students who had already completed our foundation programme. On the morning of 31 May the d-school's first Advanced Programme in Design Thinking graduates handed over their project proposals to Old Mutual's head of digital Jikku Josephs.
Over 30 postgraduate UCT students from different academic disciplines have embarked on a voyage of exploration which will equip them for a world of fast paced innovation and change.
At first glance, it looks as though the group of young adults is building Lego. But these are actually students at the University of Cape Town's Hasso Plattner Institute of Design Thinking, and they're using the colourful blocks to design a prototype. It represents policy reform ideas around transitioning from informal to formal economies. It's a complex system represented with very basic materials. This is design thinking in action: human-centred, problem solving activities that ground design thinking in practice. It helps students to understand and innovatively solve challenges...
